Bluestone Estate is a collection of luxury private residences on the Tāwharanui Peninsula, on the Matakana Coast, one hour north of Auckland, New Zealand. Set between rolling rural hills and the waters off the East Coast, Bluestone spans three neighbouring properties, Bluestone Main Estate, Bluestone Encampment and Bluestone Ridge, and seven residences that can be rented individually or combined: from a safari tent under the trees, to an intimate coastal hideaway for two, to Sole Occupancy of all three properties for forty guests, alongside the Cookhouse, our private dining room at the Farmhouse. Qualmark Gold accredited, Bluestone Estate hosts couples, families, and private groups who want the ease of true luxury with their feet in the grass or the sand: barefoot luxury, beautifully hosted, always.
The place
The Tāwharanui Peninsula is one of Auckland's best-kept secrets, bordered by an open sanctuary of protected coastline. The Matakana Coast around it holds a complete world within an hour of the city: produce-driven restaurants, boutique shops, vineyards and Saturday markets, oyster farms and surf beaches, island ferries and sculpture trails. Guests arrive quickly and arrive somewhere else entirely.

Paddocks rolling to the water, the tide working the shoreline, long tables, open doors, and the particular quality of northern light. Everything is looked after; nothing is formal. Shoes are optional. Standards are not.

In practice
A private solar farm of 72 panels generating around 30 kW, one of the largest private installations in the area, meets roughly three quarters of the estate's annual energy needs, with battery storage and backup providing up to 96 hours of autonomy.
Rainwater is harvested into five 25,000-litre underground tanks, filtered and UV-treated, with a dedicated bore-fed supply for irrigation. No purchased water.
Smart estate automation manages heating, cooling, lighting, and pool systems remotely, so the house is warm when you arrive and resting when you are not.
Native regeneration planting across the estate, organic kitchen gardens, and hand weeding in place of sprays. Support for the Tāwharanui Open Sanctuary and local pest eradication.
Every building fitted with sprinklers, fire equipment positioned to Fire and Emergency guidance with location maps in every residence, a personal safety briefing on arrival, and a 24-hour host contact.
No. Every booking is sole occupancy of your residence. Book a property on a Sole Occupancy basis and the whole of it is yours too. The one exception is Bluestone Encampment, where the three residences share a pool, a playground, and a laundry when booked individually.
No, and the difference matters. There is no dining room, no timetable, and no other guests. You have the same standard of service a lodge offers, when you want it, and none of the sharing.
Yes. There are no other guests to disturb. Kids run barefoot across the paddocks, cannonball into the pool, and fall asleep at the table.
Yes, exclusively, with one stated exception at Bluestone Encampment where the pool is shared between its three residences unless you book the Encampment on a Sole Occupancy basis.
